PESHAWAR: Newly elected Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, took the oath of his office on Saturday. The PTI managed to secure a third unprecedented consecutive term in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The oath-taking ceremony took place at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, where Governor Ghulam Ali administered the oath to Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. PTI leaders Senator Azam Swati, Babar Awan, assembly members, senior officials, and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers attended the ceremony.
It is pertinent to mention here that Ali Amin Gandapur had secured his position as Chief Minister with a majority of 90 out of 106 votes.
Upon assuming office, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur immediately issued directives to ensure the availability of essential food items at affordable prices during the holy month of Ramadan.
He instructed all commissioners and deputy commissioners to rigorously enforce these measures and ensure the availability of quality food items. Furthermore, he mandated regular market inspections, with instructions to apprehend violators.
A meeting of the District Price Review Committees has been scheduled for March 4, and fixed prices will be disseminated through official social media platforms and FM radios.
Ali Amin Gandapur’s Background:
Ali Amin Gandapur, hailing from Dera Ismail Khan in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was nominated by the founder of PTI as the party’s candidate for Chief Minister. Despite losing the party’s electoral symbol, he contested the election as an independent candidate.
Born into an influential landlord family in Kulachi in 1978, Ali Amin Gandapur graduated from Gomal University. His father, the late Aminullah Gandapur, served as a caretaker minister during General Pervez Musharraf’s tenure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Ali Amin Gandapur’s political journey gained momentum during the lawyer movement in 2007-2008, leading him to join PTI and become close to its founder, Imran Khan.
In the 2013 general elections, he entered practical politics and subsequently served as the Provincial Minister of Revenue for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after winning a provincial seat.
Following success in the 2018 general elections, Ali Amin Gandapur defeated Maulana Fazlur Rehman and was elected as a member of the National Assembly from NA-38. He then served as the Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan in the PTI government, actively advocating for the region’s provincial status.
Throughout his tenure, Ali Amin Gandapur focused on developmental work in his constituency and addressing public grievances, earning him popularity among the people.
As the provincial general secretary of PTI from 2022 to 2023, he played a crucial role in organizing the party and supporting independent candidates in the 2024 elections.
Despite facing criticism for his assertive demeanor and statements, Ali Amin Gandapur emerged victorious in the 2024 general elections, securing two seats, NA-44 and PK-113, and defeating Maulana Fazlur Rehman on NA-44.
