LAHORE: In the upcoming election for NA-128 Lahore, a closely contested battle is anticipated as Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari throws his hat into the ring.
Bilawal Bhutto will be vying for the National Assembly seat and will submit his nomination papers today (Friday). The competition heats up as he faces Salman Akram Raja, a senior Supreme Court lawyer, who is contesting from NA-128 Lahore on a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket.
Joining Bilawal Bhutto on the provincial seats are Hafiz Mohiuddin and Misbah-ur-Rehman as PPP candidates. Salman Akram Raja, representing PTI founder chairman Imran Khan in various cases, is not formally associated with the party but has decided to contest the elections in response to perceived targeting of the party to hinder its participation in the electoral process.
Addressing the media on Thursday, Salman Akram Raja expressed concerns about ‘Namaloom afraad’ (unidentified individuals) snatching nomination papers from PTI candidates and hinted at the possibility of facing arrest when filing his own nomination papers.
In the NA-128 race, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will contest against Bilawal Bhutto.
It is pertinent to note that Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will also participate in the election from NA-194 of Larkana.
