PESHAWAR: A heavy rainfall led to the collapse of a house wall in Muawiya village of district Bannu claiming the lives five people including four children and injured several others injured.
The victims, aged between five and seven years old, were identified as Asim, Owais, Tanzeela, and Wasila. Prompt rescue efforts by Bannu’s Rescue 1122 officials, along with the aid of local residents, facilitated the extraction of both injured and deceased from the debris. Sadly, despite medical treatment, one of the injured children succumbed to their injuries, raising the death toll to four. The incident was attributed to the persistent rainfall weakening the structure of the house.
Regrettably, this tragedy in Bannu was not an isolated event. Across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, reports surfaced of multiple incidents where roofs and walls collapsed under the weight of heavy rains, snowfall, and hailstorms.
In total, nine fatalities and six injuries were recorded in various districts, including Peshawar, Shangla, and Bajaur. Official data also indicated significant loss of animal life and partial damage to several houses due to the ongoing rainfall.
In a particularly devastating occurrence in Bisham, a landslide, triggered by lightning, resulted in additional casualties. Among the deceased in various incidents were eight children and one woman.
The Meteorological Department forecasts continued rainfall in the plain areas of the province over the next 24 hours, with snowfall expected to persist in the hilly regions.
